How It Works

A battery rated at 13.5 kWh does not provide 13.5 kWh of usable energy. Depth of discharge limits how much you can safely drain (typically 80-90% for lithium), and round-trip efficiency accounts for energy lost as heat during charge/discharge cycles. A 13.5 kWh battery at 80% DOD and 92% efficiency delivers about 9.9 kWh of usable energy.
